Norton Motorcycles To Receive $6.2 Million Funding From UK Government

Norton1The £4 million ($6.2 million) funding announced by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will support 600 new jobs in a major boost to help British motorcycle manufacturing.. Of the new jobs, 159 are direct employment at Norton Motorcycles, with the company expected to expand to 600 across Norton and its partners including 200 new apprenticeships.

In an attempt to encourage world-class industrial standards, the money will also go toward a new 10,000 square feet manufacturing facility, as well as research and development that hopes to yield a new green motorcycle within two years.

Norton2Norton has long enjoyed a unique place in motorcycle history and continues to draw inspiration from the past whilst building on the Norton legacy for the future. “To see solid government support for the manufacturing industry like this is hugely heart-warming and gives us great confidence in bringing the industry back to the UK, creating jobs, learning forgotten skills and enabling exports around the world – all in the full knowledge that we have great support and a solid base back home.” said Norton Motorcycle Chief Executive.

What’s that? A Norton from 1969. Where’s the radiator. That’s no modern exhaust, there’s too many stylish bends and a separate muffler that actually has a take-up screw & clamp. At least if you’re going to show “Norton”, make it a modern photo. Show the center-seam weld that we know is how fuel tanks are made today.
And paint that cam cover black. You know there’s no such thing as polished aluminum anymore. WHO YOUSE TEASING HERE? HUH? WHO’S YA’S TEASING. – Joey Buddafuco

So lets see now . Taxpayer funded government subsidies going to fund the ongoing attempt to revive Norton … who’s ethics and business practices not to mention sales , delivery etc etc so far has been anything but stellar . Yeah … thats brilliant ! Drop a bundle of the tax payers £’s on a known loser not to mention a less than transparent and dishonest loser . That ought to work out real well for the British people . My condolences UK ! You’ve just been shafted by your Exchequer . Hmmn . Wonder what he had to gain from this ill advised move ?

All above cynicisms apart, Nortons haven’t got their styling together! The motor is and looks grrreat but the rest doesn’t work visually… Maybe they should get clues from the Royal Enfield 535 GT? Sad…

“..Nortons haven’t got their styling together! …”

What pictures are you looking at….????

That thing looks drop-dead gorgeous to me…

As far as a business case goes….. its all about nostalgia.
Mix an ounce or so of bean-oil in the gas and the exhaust aroma alone will sell em…… 🙂

Hey Two joints…………smoke another your on a bummer man……………

Those Norton’s for me personally are the best looking mass (?) manufactured MotorCycles in the World.
They are stunning………………….Bit too expensive but if they build more maybe they can bring the price down.

Geezus I get a chubby on just looking at the photos.

Domestic bike makers have had no issue with sucking on the government teat from time to time TJ, have they? Six point two $M is not all that much to go on about.

I have seen a couple of the new Nortons and they are pretty good looking, check out MCC in Villa Park if you are in the Chicago area.

Just wish the new Norton owners would not so readily dismiss Kenny Dreers contribution.

If this the new Norton above, then I take back everything I said. And that’s…. a nice looking air-cooled motorcycle.
