Harley-Davidson Brand Value Drops By 43%

Every year there is a study made by Interbrand Agency and published by Fortune Magazine to rank the valuation of the 100 “Best Global Brands” in the world. Interbrand rates the companies that run businesses on at least 3 continents. Because the state of the “word economy” worsened in 2008, the overall value of these 100 brands declined by 4.6%. Among all losers experienced the biggest fall in value, down a whopping 43% or 4.34 billion due to the 66% drop in the company profits in 2 quarters of year 2008. Among other automotive losers, Lexus lost 12% , Ford lost 11%, Toyota, Volkswagen and Porsche lost 8%, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Honda and Audi lost 7% each. General Motors and Chrysler Group LLC did not even make the list in the top 100 brands in the world! (graphic is for illustration only and doesn’t reflect Harley-Davidson brand value over time)

    Yes indeed!

HD keeps putting out the nut roasters like the past few years and they will continue to fall on the charts, if not off.

    Dear Mr. Buffet,

Will you be changing the name to “Buffet-Davidson” or “Harley-Buffet”.

When you take over, will you be continuing the current business practices of the motor
company, and jam the dealer pipeline with more units than can possibly be sold, leaving
dealers in a dangerous interest bearing non-current situation?

Or, will you cut production and dealer allocation, further endangering the dealers who’s
business models are based on a certain number of motorcycles per year to stay afloat?

Will you be handing out loans to anyone with a pulse, only to have the units repossessed
and fall back in your lap?

Will you continue to believe your own hype when charging obcene prices,
in that “These are Harleys, so they’re worth the price”.

Will you sit in your ivory tower, completley oblivious to what’s really going on in the world,
and smoke your cigar whilst saying “build it, and they will come”?

Do you think ‘skater punks’ are going to save and resurrect the company as the target
demographic for the company’s future? Have you ever heard of the term ‘discretionary income’?
How much discretionary income do you think the average skater punk will have?

Looking forward to what the new logo will look like.

That graphic illustration could be more telling of its merits which is far more impacting than the motor-company’s percentage drop as the Dollar has dropped in value about 29% in less than a decade and is contributive to all the listings of downturn overtime.

    Umm, falling dollar HELPS the Motor Company, there Grayhawk…. Makes ’em cheaper to those who import from other countries…. However, the increase in sales is somewhat mitigated by the higher cost of imported assembly parts;

Bottom line, it’s Obama’s way to rejuvinate GDP- kill the dollar, pump up exports….. Works for awhile, but in the end, it’s just another bubble that always pops……

Take heed everyone….J and his comment is 100% accurate.

Who created the mess? For sure not Obama. Only Obama can save our country. It will take 5 to 10 years because of the corrupted republicans bought by big corporations to let them abuse american consumers. If it takes so long it’s because all the business model is corrupted since so many years. Yes, he can and will resolve all issues, one per one. Those who expected it will be done in one year were wrong. That’s it. To win the elections in 2012, republicans do everything for the economy not to get better. Now, Obama haters can write all what they want. Don’t care. Nor he.

Nice! H-D needs to let some of the air out of their swollen heads because for the price of a new H-D I can get two or three with low sunny day miles on them.

Obviously Patrick Jesner is not from this country as exhibited by his writings …. so as far as I am concerned he can stick his opinions and Osama Obama up his kister (sp?) and go do back flips in the corner!

    Over & Out,

    what is patrick jesner smoking?
    obama blunts?

    so totally off base……..this ain’t a republian/democrat fix.

this is a greed problem, all the assholes in control need wiped. i mean wiped out.

chain of command always wins. when things go well, they gloat……when things go wrong, they blame.

  14. 14 Oct 10th, 2009 at 7:30 am

Do any of you really think that republicans are honest ? Although I do agree that the democrats are dishonest greedy basturds, only trying to fill their own pockets at our expense. The same could and should be said about the republicans as well. The whole system is out of control. Thomas Jefferson once said that there needs to be a revolution every hundred years to keep the system honest. I think he may have been right. People in general are dishonest and greedy, if put in a position of power and allowed to have access at bribes from lobbyist most will take those gifts of free money.
Democrat or Republican makes no differance.

Hey J although I see where you are going with yer comment mine was not that it helped HD or not, just a comment when I looked at the dollar illustration picture pictured above depicting a shrinking dollar and its over all impact on everyone invested in the dollars worth/buying power from a future banana republic stand point.

HD although a major player in the mc scene is a minor blip in the overall issue/direction of US people economics that will be further impacted by a worthless dollar and future US inflation.

It is no longer about good company/bad company, republican/democrat, but the evolution/tranformation of America to a progressive state steered by self serving big government hyping social welfare services for the entitled that will accept the gifts for an exchange of vote and big governments special interest backing that can switch to any means of monitary exchange to extend their profit when fitting.
